Spring...

I have really been looking forward to Spring this year. Last year, I was a little late in the season to plant much outside, plus I was working graveyard, and basically getting my bearings back after a really tough previous year. This year, I am ready, and super excited.

Except for the fact that it snowed last Wednesday night, the weather overall has been moving toward warmth, and I could not be more grateful. I am definitely ready for winter to be over. I have been working on the yard for the past two weekends and what follows is my progress so far. I already know how much better it will be next year, because I won't have to do so much cleaning out, you will see what I mean.

I was happy to find this bee doing it's job.

Moving all that white rock was too overwhelming, so I just let the left hand flower bed speak to me. I have the water pipes to deal with in the middle, and so I just started moving rocks in that direction first and the rest just happened. I do love my little brick path to the water. I can feel how the evolution of this design will continue to happen as we move forward together.

I kept the daisy plants, and planted viola seeds in the dirt. There are rocks all over the property which came in handy for my border. The dirt under the rocks was actually not too bad. I mixed it with my compost dirt that has been brewing all winter, so I have high hopes for the flower seeds I planted. We shall see.

The little strip in front of the porch was a glimpse of how nice the yard will be to plant next year. Since I had really cleaned this dirt last year, this bed was super easy. I planted violas that I picked up at Home Depot so I could have the instant gratification of having flowers in the yard.

They are a nice variety of purple and yellow. They should look great when they fill in.

I finished all of this and part of the side yard the first day. I was pretty damn sore, but it was a good sore. Being in the yard with the sun out and my hands in the dirt was simply glorious.
