The Front Corner

I have been looking at this tree/bush ever since I moved in, trying to figure out what to do here. A good portion of this tree is dead in the middle and it is just kinda ugly over all. I sometimes go out and pick at the branches and just feel into the whole area waiting for it to speak to me. I really wanted to finish the front and side of the house before I concentrated on the back yard, so yesterday and today, I threw myself into it. I repeat this photo as the before since I forgot to take pictures before I started yesterday morning.

Yesterday, I started by moving all the white rock out of this area. I am going to plant rosemary over here. I wanted a spot away from the rest of the herbs because rosemary will take over the planet if one let's it, plus it is a big bushy plant that will fill in this corner very nicely.
This morning I still had to clean the whole front part and trim the tree. I may have gotten more done yesterday, but I was forced in the house when it started SNOWING AGAIN. I looked forward to trimming the tree, 'cuz hay, who doesn't want to use a chain saw, right? This house is so cool for coming with it's own workshop complete with just about every power tool you could name. When I got the saw out of the garage, I looked up the owners manual on line. It told me to add oil, a certian kind, which, of course, I found a gallon of in the garage. The blade did come off during the first round, so I was forced to take the thing apart to fix it. Now I know that it's really easy, so no worries.
Ah, clean and ready to plant.

I used the rocks to create some height in the back, then put a good thick layer of dirt on top. I am going to fill in the front with some annuals and plant some morning glory to run along the porch rail. Hopefully the morning glory will come back every year. I am going to fill in the middle of the tree with potted flowers, either small ones on the stumps or a big bowl that I tie to the branches, we will see what I find.

Feels good to have that done, so I can focus on the back yard tomorrow.

Have a spectacular day!
